Flash utility for polygon drawing lasso tool – Image Cut-out
Development of a Flash utility that provides users with an interface to draw a polygon around a portion of an image, producing an array of coordinates. This utility will be embedded within a webpage as a part of a larger workflow.
There will be three inputs:
a. A URL to an image (jpg /png / gif), which will already be re-sized to be at most 750x750px.
b. An alphanumeric ID
c. A callback URL to which the coordinates will be sent
The output would be an POST of the coordinates and the ID (b) to the callback URL (c)
The minimum interactions that the flash utility would support would be:
1. User would see the image displayed within the flash utility.
2. User could click on the image to create anchor points, which would designate the corners of the polygon.
3. Each anchor point would be represented by some small symbol (a dot, a square, etc.). Graphics can be provided if needed, otherwise the developer can take the initiative on selecting an appropriate icon.
4. As subsequent anchor points are added, a line (solid or dotted at the developer’s discretion) is rendered connecting the new anchor point and the previous one.
5. An undo function is intuitively accessible (a button labelled “undo last point” would be fine) that would remove the previous anchor point.
6. A submit function (button) would be present that would do a POST to the specified callback URL, moving the process along.
7. When performing the POST, an ordered array of the anchor point coordinates would be submitted.
Note that it is not necessary for the polygon to be “closed” — the starting point and ending point do not have to be the same coordinates (when this data is processed, a line will essentially be drawn between the start and end points).
Other base requirements for the Flash object are as follows:
8. The image area needs to be 750×750.
9. Any controls for the Flash object should be placed above, below, or overlaying the image area because the overall Flash object width cannot exceed 775px.
10. The expectation is that instructional text will be presented on the web page above the embedded object; however, any strings or graphics within the Flash object should be easily identified.

The above criteria was completely fulfilled for the client.
The application was used for a novelty interaction – where people could cut out a head section from an image, and have it superimposed onto an image of another characters body.
